Patient Management

Adequate Hydration is necessary before and during treatment with Ganite; avoid overhydration in patients with compromised cardiovascular status

  • Common adverse effects include elevated blood urea nitrogen and creatinine, asymptomatic mild-to-moderate hypocalcemia, and transient hypophosphatemia

  • Ganite should not be administered to patients with severe renal impairment (serum creatinine > 2.5 mg/dL); monitoring of renal status is recommended in patients with moderately impaired renal function

  • Though no direct link has been established to Ganite, potential adverse reactions such as a decrease in serum bicarbonate, anemia, decrease in blood pressure, and rarely (< 1%) optic neuritis, tinnitus, and partial loss of auditory acuity have been reported

  • The safety and efficacy of subcutaneous administration (see Drug Interactions section of the Prescribing Information) or retreatment with Ganite has not been established.
